Nandigram in West Bengal

Nandigram: A bleeding wound! Nandigram in West Bengal was an area of social and political unrest through the year. The Communist-led State Government, in its drive to bring industrial investment into the area initiated a land acquisition drive which led to massive protests. The unrest led to clashes between the ruling party members and an association of the dispossessed landowners. Scores of lives have been lost. Finally, central paramilitary forces had to be called to bring the situation under control.
