Indian football teamFinally, the Indian football fan has something to cheer about as the Indians won their first major international title when they beat Syria 1-0 to lift the Nehru Cup international football trophy played at the Ambedkar Stadium on August 29, 2007. The last time India won an international tournament was in 2005 when they lifted the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup in Pakistan. The victory also came on a day when the country celebrated the National Sports Day and President Pratibha Patil gave away the Arjuna Awards for excellence in sports
