India's First Woman Prez July 26, 2007 India's first female president Pratibha Patil was sworn in on July 26, 2007. Seventy-two-year-old Patil, dressed in a white and green saree, took the oath of office inside Parliament's packed and ornate Central Hall, promising to uphold the Constitution. She then received a 21-gun salute. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam was also present on the occasion.
